Last weekend DC Rally was back on the Rally America National Championship podium, with Ken Block taking the win and Travis Pastrana locking down 2nd at the 2009 Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania. While Travis overcame suspension issues to get back to the front of the pack, Ken was dominant as he took all three stages Friday and five stages on Saturday.
Susquehannock Trail Performance Rally (STPR) is a really fast rally, with most stages on smooth hard-packed gravel. Some roads are wide open; others are lined with trees… there’s peril, but there’s also reward for those willing to push hard.
Ken pushed hardest, and was rewarded the most. He was blazing fast, and took each stage on Day 1 (Friday) by 30 seconds. Ken’s co-driver Alex Gelsomino said, "We took a risk pushing that hard on those stages--it wasn't stupid, but almost."
From there, Ken maintained his lead. Like him, Travis drove clean and solid, easily taking 2nd overall. The great finishes allow Travis to maintain his lead in the championship, with Ken now sitting 5th overall.
Next up: the New England Forest Rally in mid-July. For more from STPR including detailed daily bulletins and photos, go here.
