Travis Pastrana has come into the 2009 Rally America National Championship hot -- last weekend he won the season kick-off, the aptly titled Sno*Drift rally in Michigan. It's a great first step in Travis campaign to defend his title in the fiercely contested championship.
Last year Travis Pastrana locked in his third straight Rally America National Championship. He's still the youngest driver ever to win the championship, and the only only driver to win back-to-back titles. (Let alone back-to-back-to-back!).
As the title indicates, Sno*Drift is the annual Rally America race that takes place in the white stuff. Taking place over two days in Michigan, this year drivers enjoyed fresh snow and big snow banks as they battled for the win.
Not only did Travis win Sno*Drift -- he dominated it, bettering the field by nearly two minutes (a veritable eternity in rally). With nearly a thousand people braving the cold and turning out on the last day, Travis doubled his already rock-solid day one lead of 52 seconds before the close of the rally.
"It was so cool to see all the fans out there tonight hanging out with bonfires raging as I raced past," said Travis about the big crowd. Then, looking forward to the next round, said, "I really really want to win 100 Acre Wood, no matter what it takes."
Why does Pastrana really, really want to win 100 Acre Wood? Because his friendly nemesis and DC teammate Ken Block has won it for the last 3 years straight. Travis wants to break that streak!
